What is hysterical neurosis?

It is a disorder in which the patient suffers from anguish, anxiety, depression, and a series of somatic physical symptoms.

Individuals with hysterical neurosis suffer from recurrent frustration and victim mentality, always exaggerating the negative aspects of their lives and worrying unhealthily about all sorts of issues, obsessing over things beyond their control or eccentricities.

They tend to assume blame that does not correspond to them easily, hindering their interpersonal relationships and becoming a social misfit with little decision-making capacity.

There are three types of neurosis:

Obsessive.
Phobic
Hysterical.

Hysterical neurosis is characterized by permanent dissatisfaction, unattainable desire, and a feeling of defeat and perpetual loss, which causes behaviors directed by fear, avoiding everything that can be positive due to the fear of it turning negative.

This type of neurosis can range from superficial cases, which do not represent major problems for the patient, to high-intensity cases which can cause severe anxiety attacks and depression which include physical symptoms due to somatization.

Signs and symptoms Hysterical neurosis

Tremors.
Lack of muscle strength.
Partial or total paralysis.
Trouble walking.
Seizures.
Loss of voice.
Hearing difficulties.
Sort of lump in the throat.

Diagnosis and treatment Hysterical neurosis

Once your doctor analyzes your symptoms and clinical history, they will perform a physical and psychological examination and request the following tests to rule out or confirm the diagnosis: If deemed necessary, they will perform additional tests.

The treatment to follow involves a combination of:

To control the symptoms that enhance your neurosis.
Cognitive behavioral psychotherapy:
It is based on various techniques to achieve an understanding of emotions, thoughts, sensations, and behaviors, which will provide the guidelines to change neurotic interpretations misperceptions, and unfocused perceptions of yourself.
