It refers to surgical intervention during childbirth, to remove the baby from the mother’s womb through an incision in the abdomen. Occasionally, a c-section may be chosen due to the mother’s voluntary decision or as a result of a medical requirement when the mother or baby has a health problem such as: abnormal position of the baby, pre-eclampsia, mother’s cardiovascular problems or HIV infection.
Before the procedure:
When potential risks or various complications during pregnancy have been identified, a c-section may be recommended or necessary instead of natural delivery.
After the procedure:
It is important to remember that a c-section has a longer recovery time compared to a natural delivery, so this intervention may require you to stay in the hospital for a couple of days before returning home.
It is common for you to have pain in the area of the procedure, vaginal bleeding, and fatigue for several days.
